Netra Unni won the Science Expo 2013 MeriSTEM competition


Netra Unni, a grade 10 IB student of Glenforest Secondary School, Mississauga won the MERISTEM competition at the Science Expo 2013. Her project was “Nuclear Programming: The Creation of Stem Cells”, which evolves into the field of Stem Cell Research. The project was aimed to bring awareness to the importance of stem cell creations through nuclear reprogramming for therapeutic cloning.All the relevant aspects of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) were thoroughly incorporated in the project and its demo.
MeriSTEM is a two-stage competition that is open to any high-school student with an interest for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). The purpose of this competition is to encourage students to explore, discover and learn about different aspects of STEM. The unique layout of meristem gauges competitors’ strengths and weaknesses in thinking, inquiry, communication and analysis.
