Unwrapping the Gift – Rev.Dr.Jiji Chacko
God’s best gift to the world was His own only begotten son Jesus Christ. This gift from God is wrapped with the eternal life, great joy, peace and unconditional love. When the world is remembering His birth these days, let us unwrap the gift with our availability, commitment and obedience. The eternal attributes of our God is His love, mercy and all goodness. When we receive His gift Jesus we can enjoy His love, mercy and His goodness. Mary, the virgin was available for the work of the Holy Spirit and was conceived with the Savior of the world as she believed the performance of the Word that she heard from the angel. Joseph obeyed the word that he received in his dream and acted upon it to introduce the Savior to the world.
In the Holy Spirit, Elizabeth, the mother of John the baptist acknowledged the presence of her Lord in the womb of Mary. Even the fetus form of John realized the presence of the Lord when both the mothers were meeting one another. Mary in the Spirit sang that the Lord has remembered the humble and has done great things.
The humble shepherds were so privileged that they received the angelic revelation and heard the announcement of the birth of the Savior. They witnessed the new born savior and they joined the angels to glorify God, they had the great joy that Heaven announced.
The high profile astronomists or astrologists, wise men from the East saw the star and understood that the King was born and in search of Him traveled long distances to reach Him. They struggled. As they trusted their wisdom for few moments even though they received the wisdom revelation, they ended up in the palace of Herod which led to the killing of babies. Herod killed the babies of two year old and under in the fear of losing his throne. However when they came out of the palace they saw the star again and they were led to the house where they found Jesus and worshiped Him.
In the Holy Spirit revelation Simeon saw the child and proclaimed that he saw the salvation prepared by God and he praised God. Anna, the prophetess in the temple seeing this holy moment rejoiced, praised God and went around in proclaiming Him.
Instead of trusting our wisdom and leading others in destructive way like those wise men, let us receive the revelation through His Spirit and the Word, as we enjoy the gift of God. While we are unwrapping this Gift from above let us reflect the unconditional love, peace and joy through our actions. It is easy to show our love to those who love us and be in peace within our self or own. Let us show our love to those by sharing our gifts with those from whom we cannot expect anything. Let us be in peace even with those who hate us and rejoice even in the midst of fear of death, diseases and dangers as we have the eternal life, unconditional love, great joy and peace because of His birth.
