The P.N. Panicker Foundation will distribute tablet PCs in Rural Kerala

The P.N. Panicker Foundation here will distribute tablet PCs to those living in rural areas as part of its Reading Week celebrations.

In a tie-up with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL), the foundation will facilitate the distribution of up to one lakh ‘penta’ tablet PCs in the rural areas.

The project not only aims at promoting the reading habit among the rural population but also at enabling the rural youth in skill development through the Internet, information made available by the foundation said.

The scheme will be formally launched on June 19, the day on which the Reading Week celebrations will be inaugurated.

The tablet PCs will be sold at a subsidised rate of Rs.3,000. BSNL will provide with each tablet a ‘dongle’ for Net connectivity. A special post-paid monthly plan for Rs.300 will be offered to those who purchase the tablets through the foundation. The scheme will only be applicable to those coming under the rural exchanges of BSNL.
