The Annual Family Picnic of Canadian Malayalee Association [CMA] will be held on this Saturday 31st July, 2010 at Wild WoodPark A Location [Derry & Goreway] from 10 am to 10 pm.

11th All Canada Tug Of War Competition, Admiral best Singer 2010, Games, Kerala Foods, BBQ are the main attractions of the Picnic. Ticket Rate is as low as $10/-

New Jacobite Syriac Orthodox Church Established in Calgary, Alberta.

Calgary: The St.Thomas Jacobite Syriac Orthodox Church, the new parish was inaugurated in Calgary on Sunday 18th July 2010. This is the first Jacobite Syriac Orthodox Parish in Calgary. Rev.Fr. Prince Mookkanottil is the first vicar in charge to organize this Parish. The Parish is inaugurated with the permission and blessings of the diocesan bishop, His Eminence Yeldho Mor Theethose Archbishop of Malankara Arch diocese of North America.

Rev. Fr. Prince Mookkanottil celebrated the first inaugural Holy Qurbana on Sunday 18th July 2010. He extended all the blessing for the new parish. He emphasized that the St. Thomas Parish will be serving the Calgary community as a family in social and spiritual activities. There will be holy Qurbana and Sunday school for the children on every Sunday. Monthly Parish Bulletin will be published from August onwards with the creativity of children, parishners and church news. Rev. Fr. Prince is the founder and vicar of St. George Jacobite Syriac Orthodox Church too. This Parish is established on May 6th 2007 and it is growing tremendously with social and spiritual commitment, extending service to the Church and Society. Rev. Fr. Prince is well known in GTA with his selfless social and spiritual activities. He has his degree in science, diploma in pharmacy, masters in English, degree in theology, master’s in counseling, master’s in hospital administration and doctorate in psychology. He is the founder of the Pelican centre, Kanjiramattom, Kerala, the treatment and rehabilitation centre for the homeless and mentally ill people.

He is presently committed in the organizing of the Edmonton St.Simon’s Jacobite Syriac Orthodox Parish which will be inaugurated on 31st July 2010.

Abraham Kanji, community and political leader(Ex Vice President of FOMAA and FOKANA) passed away on Sunday in Las Vegas. He was 61.

India unveils a 35 dollar Laptop.

Kapil Sibal, Minister of Human Resource Development Ministry of India unveils a working prototype of a 35 dollar touch screen laptop jointly developed by Indian institute of Technology (Kanpur, Khadakpur, Chennai , Bombay) and the Indian Institute of Sciences , Bangalore.

The device comes with a touch screen, 2GB of Ram, Wireless internet and USB ports, Processor, touch screen and probably a linux based operating system.

The ministry is mainly targeting the student community of India. The minister informed that further R&D will reduce the cost to around 20 dollars in the future.

This is a great leap forward for India in the technology and services industry. India has always been viewed as Cyber Coolies for the west. These kind of R&D projects would change India’s image as a true Technology Innovator and just not technology implementors.
