So I agree with the majority of comments. Miss Kerala should be about the contestants speaking in malayalam and showcasing more abt kerala values. Also I agree that the 2nd runner up and the photogenic person is far better than the winner n the first runner up. I mean this is so pathetic. Also another question the rules for Miss Kerala suggests that contestants should be between 16 and 23 yrs old. I am curious to know what is the age of the first runner up as she is either 24 or 25 so what is the verdict here? the rules are not important. Come on people set up rules that needs to be followed.”
Dude, your comment clearly indicated that you have a relation to the 2nd runner up or ms. photogenic. I’m going with the former. The best contestants won but yeah, its the first time the Brampton Malayalee Samajam has organized something like this. In future programs, you may expect the rules to change and hopefully, someone you know might even take first.
And this message is for the organizers. One of the contestants talent was a fast motion SAND ART painting. It was quite inappropriate on the organizers part to not have a dedicated screen for the judges to watch this video. Seeing them look back at the screen, amidst all the people was pretty pathetic.
So hopefully, you may correct that next time.
best of luck to all

I am the first time on this site and am really enthusiastic about and so many good articles. I think it’s just very good.

This comment is directed to Joseph:
This is a beauty pageant after all and the girls are required to wear certain attire. That being said, you must definitely appreciate the fact that there was no swimsuit round! Afterall, this was a pageant that promoted the intelligence, talent and beauty of all the contestants – Note the order in which I mentioned the three qualities.
And really, what did you expect for a beauty pageant? Surely, Joseph, you didn’t expect the contestants to prance around in business attire, did you? Or wearing long-sleeved gowns?! Times have changed, Joseph! And take this seriously coming from me, a WOMAN!
And for more information, I seriously suggest you search/watch some videos of the Miss Kerala pageant in Kerala itself. I assure you, you will be MORE than surprised at what you find!
There was no “exposing” as you put it in the Miss Kerala Canada pageant. If there was, I am sure many more would have spoken up, not just a solitary voice such as yours.
Lastly, ask your aunt to watch the Miss Kerala pageant and see if they are indeed with the whole “non-exposing” thing!
I was very disappointed by the fact that many of these ladies were dressed inappropriatly. Kerala is known for the women’s modesty and this contest really puts Kerala down. If my aunt from India saw what most of these ladies were wearing, i’m sure she would have fainted. Next year, there should be strict rules for what these ladies should wear because it is not acceptable for a malayalee women to dress the way many of them dressed. Secondly, there should be strict rules for the attire that they wear: they should be wearing what malayalees wear not the degrading sarees that many North Indian wear.
Hello all
I really had hoped that this petty inspection and ridiculousness could have been avoided at least with the introduction of such a new event as the one that BMS has orgranised…
This is exactly the reason why our people cannot prosper whichever land we migrate to – everyone is too busy trying to find the SMALLEST FAULTS in the other’s efforts and is too focused on this that you FORGET to look at the POSITIVE changes that the event has done! Even just 5 years ago, could we have even imagined such an event like this in our community here in Canada??
Ridiculing or finding FAULT with the contestants OR the winners is not the constructive way to go about doing things. I really feel ashamed when our own people do this to our younger generation – these are girls who will become the next generation of young women to lead our Malayalee community here in Canada; therefore you all should not go about criticizing them or saying that one does not deserve to win. Rather, we as a community should FOCUS on ENCOURAGING and fostering more talent like this. There is no need for another Sukumar Azheekode here because I know that there were no “vulgarities” or non-Malayaliness that any of the girls portrayed. Such talk as the ones that you all are initiating here will only arise precisely because of people like you all. We do not have to take such a negative stand on all this.
This comment is directed @ Joe: I do not think that BMS will take part in any “illegal” dealings like bribing the judges or anything – to even suggest that is so cheap. I have been on executive committees for TMS, HMS and all that but none of these other organizations have organized any events like this. This is the first time for Canadian Malayalees. Therefore, I do not think that BMS will actually do anything like that especially when they are introducing a NEW event for the FIRST time. SHAME ON YOU all for even suggesting that!
My heartfelt CONGRATULATIONS and wellwishes to the Brampton Malayalee Samajam team for taking on such an enormous event that they executed very well. My family and I are really looking forward to next year’s event now that the standard has been set with Miss Kerala Canada 2010! Congratulations to all the winners – I feel that all of them are well deserving of the titles that they have won and wish them all the very best for their futures!
Akhina Mooken and Richa Ajithkumar did a good job over all… definitely very deserving and also the whole event was wonderful and worth watching!
Congratulations to the BMS team on your success in organizing such an amazing show !
this comment isdirected to joe,
dude, chill. this was just a program. no need to get all emotional abt it. I am guessing one of your relatives was on stage?
Its ok. Next time maybe

Canada il aadyamaayi ingane oru event organize cheytha BMS nu abhinandanangal!!
i agree wid u jacob,,,,,,,,,, you are right
You could have hundread other reasons or names which a party / get together/ dinner can be organized. As you said , it is Miss Kerala and are they really Miss Kerala??? they should atleast have a look of a kerala girl.. and should atleast know malayalam.. This one was actually ashaming the whole Kerala Culture..
We need another SUKUMAR AZHEEKKODE here in Canada to speak against these kind of Vulgarities.
The entire bms team was behind the success of the programme no matter how big or small their role is .We value the suggestions and comments which will give us strength and courage to correct the mistakes , and assure that BMS will learn from mistakes, and definitely will do a better job next time
We apologize for the inconvenient in accommodating the huge gathering due to the huge turn out beyond our expectation. sincere thanks once again and expecting same support in the future and after all we believe that our strength is we are all

Congratulations to BMS for organizing the event. But Miss Kerala should be judged based on Knowledge of Malayalam, Kerala, and for choosing talents promoting Kerala outfits and culture. The idea of the event should be focussing Kerala. It was so nice to see some ladies chose traditional Kerala outfits and malayalam songs. They should have been given more credit. Also, there should have been malayalee judges for a Miss Kerala competition. Well, it is first time, I am sure BMS will learn from mistakes, and will do a better job next time
i mean koothara for the miss kerala n the 1st runner up….are the judges bribed?is this the standard of the event?????/ pathetic……..i agree tht the girls are born n brought up in canada n they have a very little knowledge about kerala but miss kerala should be awarded to someone who has atleast some basic knowledge about wht kerala is..but this is so pathetic….
nalla thara miss kerala and 1st runner up/////// photgenic n 2nd runnerup is far better than the later.kootara
Thanks organizers. It is was wonderful show except candle dance, no offence it gave me a different mood seems like went into different world.
well done, webmalayalee
Lots of people couldn’t watch the show LIVE …The BMS website crashed and we could see only the “no Service available” message there. After lots of struggling we could reach the FREE streamlive site, where the number of viewers were limited. Anyhow almost 50 people could watch fully or partially through the online LIVE STREAM. Hope, next the organizers go for premium live stream package and higher bandwidth for the website. We got surprised hearing the number 3100 people watched the show worldwide, [ hello,..... we can see the number [ how many are watching the show], besides the screen….don’t try to fool us]. Anyway the show was great; Superb; well organized…….Keep it up…
“CONGRATULATIONS” to the Winners of MISS KERALA CANADA – Akhina mooken, Minu Jose & Richa AjithKumar. ” CONGRATULATIONS” also to the winner of “Best Photogenic” contest – MISS RUTH PHILIPS.
I would also like to add that each of the participants did their very best and i Wish you all the Best! Jennifer Gopinath
